In this 1-day taster screenprinting workshop at Blueway Art Studio, learn the basics of screen printing in a fun and creative environment that will immerse you in words and images from Ireland’s Ancient East. This workshop is an introduction or taster of the screen printing process using an LED emulsion-coated screen and a photo exposure unit.
Participants will bring a prepared image or they can draw or make an abstract print on the day and we will provide all the materials, tools. This workshop is suitable for beginners and will also cover the processes of printing and editioning your artwork on paper, colour layering and registration and using the paper-cut stencil method to print at home.
Turn your one-colour image into a screen and print an edition of prints on paper or fabric or even t-shirts! A materials fee covers paper, ink, use of a screen, 1 fairtrade bag or T-shirt, and other consumables. This workshop can be tailored for groups to work collaboratively on a single or number of designs.
Visitors will develop a one-colour screen print on a bag or t-shirt. Support the circular economy by bringing your own t-shirts to upcycle, up to a maximum of 4 additional prints. We use organic fairtrade unisex t-shirts & bags. Please add your approx size in notes when booking, such as Size small, medium, large, XL, XXL, XXXL. If you bring your own, just make sure they are light-coloured and all the same colour as it takes time to change the colour of the ink.
All materials are included, 1 fairtrade organic bag or T-shirt.
All materials needed for screen printing are supplied, within reason, including 1 t-shirt or bag or 4 large sheets of Awagami printmaker paper. Tea and coffee are also included.
You may either bring your own lunch or opt for the local community café – known as the Old Hardware. It’s a great place to find hand-made scones or cakes, and Mel’s Gastro Pub across the road from the Blueway Art Studio, serves food from 4pm at the weekends and from 5pm during the week.
There are lots of options for things to do, places to stay, eat and drink in nearby Athy too.
This is a beginner introduction to screenprinting workshop working with a single colour on textile (it takes longer to dry) or a max of 2 colours on paper. You will learn about stencilling, layers and working with different colours but we do not have the time to dry or create multiple layers in a one-day workshop. In a group workshop participants work at different paces and may need to wait for equipment.
You may bring sketches, single images on A4 transparency or tracing paper, horizontal or vertical.
Participants can send me their artwork to print on transparencies or they can draw or make an abstract print on the day.
(Optional) You may wish to bring fabric panels, your own fabric or you can purchase additional bags or t-shirts up to a max of 4.
It’s a good idea to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you won’t mind getting marked.
Blueway Art Studio is on the ground floor so there are no stairs to climb. However, it’s an old building with a smaller than usual door so not all wheelchairs fit through.
You might not believe it, but everyone is creative! Some of the people who join us at the workshops may be practising creatives and others will be absolute beginners. All are welcome! You just need to bring an open mind and you will create something you will cherish.
